Four killed in accident on US 41 NBC2 News Last updated on: 4 20 2007 10:31:31 PM COLLIER COUNTY: Four people were killed and four others were injured when two vehicles collided just after noon on US 41 in Eastern Collier County. The accident happened near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Loop Road. Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol says a 1997 Nissan was heading west on US 41 when the driver - 21-year-old Valarie Mendez - attempted to p , but couldn-t because of oncoming traffic. When Mendez tried to get back into her original lane she lost control and the vehicle slid into the east bound lanes. A 1996 Chrysler, which was headed east bound, tried to avoid the Nissan - but the two collided. Mendez and two of her p engers in the Nissan, 20-year-old Alan Suggs and 21-year-old Jose Diaz, were thrown from the car. All three were killed. A fourth person in the car, 16-year-old Silvia Tamayo, sustained serious injures. The driver of the Chrysler, 65-year-old Lucille Iannini, was also killed. One of her p engers, 69-year-old Robert Iannini, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious injures. The two people in the backseat of her car, 18-year-old Evan Pratt and 18-year-old Nathaniel Royer, were taken to Naples Community Hospital in serious condition.
